Jacqueline "Jackie" Howard, an educational advocate, retired in 2003 from the LAUSD after serving 35 years. As an adjunct professor at California State University, Northridge she continued to mentor aspiring students who would become teachers. She created, directed and secured funds for "Pasadena Best", an after-school enrichment program for elementary school students.
For over 25 years Jackie was a proud member of one of the oldest and most prestigious women's service organization in America, The Links, Incorporated. She served in numerous capacities in the Pasadena-Altadena Chapter, including president, and was currently serving as Western Area vice director. She proudly served two terms as president of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation board.
She and her childhood sweetheart of nearly 50 years, Charles, shared many happy experiences. They enjoyed extensive world travel, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her three grandsons.
She passed away surrounded in the loving care of her family in Pasadena. She leaves to relish her memories, her mother Geraldine Hill of Austin, TX, her husband Charles Howard, daughter Pamela Tyus, son Charles L. Howard, and three grandsons. She also leaves a host of extended family and loving friends.
Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Friendship Baptist Church, 80 W Dayton Street, Pasadena, CA. Internment Friday, February 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Rose Hills Cemetery 3888 Workmen Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601.
