In addition, for an opportunity to celebrate the service given by the Honorees, the crowd was blessed by presentations and performances by music entertainers Koda' Turner, Candace Lacy and Brother Yusef. The Invocation by Dr. Rosie Milligan was memorable. She reminded us how good God is, all the time, with this event and even before this event. Dr. Milligan remembered the prayers of her father and the old folks of the church when they said that they thank God for allowing them to get up in the morning and start them on their way. She said that (as children) we all assume that everybody could get up in the morning and be on their way without help.

A video by Brother Yusef of each of the honorees in their own words was one of the highlights of the morning. Each honoree told a bit about themselves and why they serve in their church, some as long as 50 years.

Jewel Diamond Taylor, the keynote speaker, thrilled the crowd and honored the honorees who had risen to serve without the thought of being honored for the service they give. She chronicled the many things women do in life and praised them for their service. This dynamic speaker introduced her new book, I Am Resilient, written after the recent loss of her son to cancer. The book is available through her website: www.DoNotGiveUp.net.

Dr. Pamela Powell, a nationally recognized educator who served as Mistress of Ceremony, used her exceptional talents to keep the program together in style and class. She gave tribute to honored guests including the ministers who were present, along with the local ministers and political guests, Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard, Vice Mayor Jacque Robinson, Assemblyman Chris Holden, and Pasadena City Councilmember John Kennedy -- all of whom made presentations to the honorees.

Journal Publisher Ruthie Hopkins informed the crowd to watch The Journal for the date, time and place of the Journal's celebration of twenty-five years of publishing, November or December 2014.
