Free Movies About City's Energy Plan

Black news from Pasadena - Community - Energy Road Map videos Pasadena, CA — Will Pasadena harness the power of the Sun; have reasonable energy costs and be kind to Mother Nature too? That's exactly what the Pasadena Water and Power Department (PWP) is exploring at a movie-themed community event this month.

PWP customers are invited to sit in an air-conditioned theater to be among the first to see PWP's new "Energy Roadmap" videos, a series of short films detailing the City's efforts to provide reliable, environmentally responsible power at competitive rates for the next two decades.

Two free screenings are planned for 6:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, and 10:30-11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 30, at the Laemmle Playhouse 7 Theaters, 673 E. Colorado Blvd. Guests will see the same videos at either screening and will receive free popcorn, soda, an energy-saving LED light and other fun giveaways.

The video series is designed to engage customers to help PWP update the City's 20-year Power Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), a document crafted in 2009 and revised in 2012 to lay out the City's future power supply mix. A Stakeholder Technical Advisory Group has been appointed and consultants Black and Veatch have been selected to guide the comprehensive update. The video screenings mark the start of a citywide outreach effort.

The videos explain why Pasadena needs an IRP, where the City's energy comes from and how it is delivered to customers. It explains the pros and cons of conventional and renewable energy; how Pasadena sets its energy-use goals and how customers can help by adopting energy-efficiency measures and taking advantage of PWP-offered rebates.

Between each video, PWP will discuss the IRP in more detail. Energy experts will be on-hand to answer questions, gather input and direct customers to energy-saving resources.

Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Customers can reserve a seat at www.cityofpasadena.net/CSC or by calling (626) 744-7311.

Two additional IRP community events will be held later this year. Customers can find complete details on the IRP update; join the email list to receive event notices and submit comments by visiting www.PWPweb.com/IRP.
