Steve Tobia Announces THE 50 Fabulous Women of 2013

Journal Co-Publisher To Be Honored

Steve Tobia, publisher of THE Magazine, today announced THE 50 Fabulous Women of 2013 who will be honored at the Fifth Annual Fabulous Women Premiere Event on Tuesday, June 4 at the Historical Pasadena Museum of History beginning at 5 p.m.

For the past five years, THE Magazine, which is the largest circulated monthly lifestyle magazine in the Pasadena Foothills Region covering eleven communities, conducts an 12-month nomination process for the 50 women chosen by an Honorary Committee.

Once a Fabulous Woman has been honored, she becomes a lifetime member of the 50 Fabulous Women Hall of Fame. This year, each of the 250 honorees over the past five years will be featured on THE Video Wall of Fame during the event.

Altadena NAACP ACT-SO "The Olympics of the Mind" Goes to Florida with the GOLD

Black news from Pasadena - Community News - Altadena NAACP ACT-SO Awards local winnersTalented young people from a wide variety of disciplines were recognized as local winners in the 2013 Altadena NAACP ACT-SO Awards Celebration held Sunday, April 28, 2013. The celebration draws interest from the local community and surrounding areas,San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles.

The Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics of the Mind (ACT-SO) is a National Youth Initiative of the NAACP. Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded during the Altadena NAACP's 16th Anniversary Celebration of ACT-SO. ACT-SO alumna, Portia Gorman (formerly Mitchell) was the lively and entertaining Mistress of Ceremonies for the afternoon.

Gamma Zeta Boule Foundation Presents the “Rising to the Top” Scholarship Luncheon

Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation (GZBF) announced that they will hold their annual Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation Scholarship Luncheon, on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Pasadena Hilton, 168 S. Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101. Chris Schauble, KTLA 5 Morning News Co-Anchor, will be the host for this celebration.

Mr. Nolan Rollins, President and CEO for the Los Angeles Urban League will be the Keynote Speaker for this event. In addition, Mr. Eric Holoman, President of Magic Johnson Enterprises and Dr. Michael Scott, noted humanitarian and physician will be honored for outstanding leadership and community excellence. Additional special recognition will be provided to community members Melvin Stevens and the late Ernest Crew.

Entertainment for the afternoon will be provided by the RAW Sugar Jazz Quintet which features an all-star lineup led by trumpeter Dr. Richard Allen Williams.

The Gamma Zeta Boulé Foundation (GZBF) will also recognize twelve high school seniors graduating from the GZBF LAMP Mentor Program. The GZBF values academic achievement and is committed to ensuring that students have the resources necessary to further their educational pursuits.

Pasadena Deltas Presents Successful Tenth Annual Young African American Women’s Conference

Black news from Pasadena - Community News - Deltas Young African American Women's Conference - YAAWCnceOn Saturday, April 13, 2013 the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in collaboration with numerous community partners, presented the Tenth Annual Young African American Women's Conference (YAAWC) for girls grades 7 to 12 at Pasadena City College (PCC). The theme was "Imagine Yourself . . . " and the event provided an opportunity for approximately 250 girls and their parents or guardians to explore their special talents and qualities; identify resources and tools to succeed in college; heighten their awareness of career options; and learn about relevant life issues. All participants received conference materials, numerous give-a-ways, continental breakfast, lunch and several chances to win great door prizes.
