Registration Open for Annual “Sister Chat” Event

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Eta Lambda Omega Chapter, Pasadena/Altadena,  is sponsoring its' Fourth Annual Sister Chat 2014 for high school young ladies between the ages of 15 years - 19 years. Our theme this year is, "Teenage Human Trafficking." The date is November 15, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The location is at the Altadena Senior Center, 560 East Mariposa Street, Altadena, California 91001.

This year we have planned exciting, "chatting" topics of discussion in a warm comfortable environment that will include many exciting activities, gifts, prizes and so much more!!!



Homesteader Harvest and Family Festival

Saturday, October 4, 2014, From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Altadena Library District, 600 E. Mariposa Street, Altadena, CA 91001, celebrate the fall season and meet your neighbors!

Sponsored, hosted, and coordinated by Library Trustee Meredith McKenzie, the Homesteader Harvest and Family Festival brings good food, music, and fun for the whole family.

The focus was leadership as Pasadena Fire Chief Calvin Wells, Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez and gang intervention expert Ricky Pickens addressed three special sessions of "Lunch With the Future," an on-campus motivational speaker series sponsored by Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD), the male student support group at John Muir High School.



Reps. Judy Chu and Grace Napolitano Launch Annual Domestic Violence Campaign

Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) joined Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park, and other local businesses and women's rights organizations to kick off the 11th Annual Domestic Violence Collection Drive. Started in 2003, the drive collects clothing and supplies for women and children who are victims of domestic violence, and takes place every year during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Reps. Chu and Napolitano released the following statements:



Celebrate National Public Lands Day by Becoming a Friend of the Forest!

Black news from Pasadena - Community - National Forest Foundation - Public Lands DayTujunga, CA —The National Forest Foundation (NFF), the U.S. Forest Service, and Edison International recognized National Public Lands Day by hosting more than 100 volunteers for forest renewal efforts in the Big Tujunga Treasured Landscape. Together, the organizations and volunteers helped to heal a part of the Angeles National Forest that was damaged in the 2009 Station Fire. The event also honored the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking Wilderness Act of 1964.
