Health care in Pasadena took a turn for the better in April, 2013.
The Pasadena City Public Health Department, through its director, Dr. Eric Walsh, added dental care to the services available to residents in the Pasadena, Altadena area, through the Health Department.
April 24th marked the grand opening of the new dental clinic which is located at 1845 North Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena.
The Clinic is a joint venture between the County of Los Angeles and the City of Pasadena. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich worked with Pasadena City Manager, Michael Beck, and Dr. Walsh to make it happen. Accordingly, the clinic is appropriately named City of Pasadena Michael D. Antonovich Dental Clinic.
The clinic is the latest addition to the idea of the BLACK MALE FORUM for creating a community health clinic in the 1990's. Out of that idea was created what is now known as CHAPS (the Community Health Alliance Partnership).
Dr. Melanie Washington is the director of the dental clinic. She attended school in Rancho Cucamonga and is a graduate of Spelman College and the University of Southern California, Herman Ostrov School of Dentistry. She previously worked for Pacific Dental Services in Southern California. Her inspiration came from an aunt who practices dentistry in northern California.
