CNN’s “New Day” News Anchor Michaela Pereira to Emcee Rose Queen Announcement and Coronation

African American news from Pasadena - Community - Michaela Pereira to emcee 2014 Rose Queen announcement and coronationThe Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Association today announced that Michaela Pereira, news anchor of the CNN morning show "New Day," will emcee the 2014 Rose Queen® Announcement and Coronation on October 24 at First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena. Tickets are now available for purchase by the public from Sharp Seating Company. The event is sponsored by Citizens Business Bank with support from Macy's and Mikimoto.

Before working at CNN, Pereira co-hosted the KTLA Morning News for nine years and also co-hosted the station's coverage of the Rose Parade®. She is an active member of many community organizations within California.

The Rose Queen will be selected from the recently-appointed, seven-member Royal Court (in alphabetical order): Ana Marie Acosta, 17, Polytechnic School; Sarah Elizabeth Hansen, 19, Pasadena City College; Kayla Diyana Johnson-Granberry, 17, Pasadena High School; Jamie Ann Kwong, 17, La Salle High School; Katherine Diane Lipp, 17, La Cañada High School; Elyssia Hadi Widjaja, 17, San Marino High School; and Elizabeth Katie Woolf, 17, La Cañada High School.

The Queen and Royal Court will attend more than 100 community and media functions, acting as ambassadors of the Tournament and the Pasadena community at large. Their reign over the 2014 Tournament of Roses festivities will culminate in the 125th Rose Parade presented by Honda and the 100th Rose Bowl Game® presented by VIZIO.

[The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is a volunteer organization that annually hosts the Rose Parade® presented by Honda, the Rose Bowl Game® presented by VIZIO and a variety of associated events. The Tournament's 935 volunteer members act as ambassadors of the organization within the community and serve on one of 31 committees that ensure the success of the parade and game. Collectively, they contribute upwards of 80,000 hours of manpower each year. The 125th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed "Dreams Come True," will take place Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, followed by the 100th Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO. On Jan. 6, 2014, the Tournament will also host the 2014 VIZIO BCS National Championship at the Rose Bowl Stadium.
