Covered California recently joined the Pasadena NAACP Branch to open a “Get Covered” Enrollment Center to help get more African Americans and other Southern Californians enrolled in health insurance coverage. The center’s opening comes as COVID-19 cases surge in California, and African Americans and other people of color are disproportionately impacted by the virus with higher infection rates, hospital admissions, and death. The recent opening day activities at the center provided important health care enrollment information to participants, free food giveaways by My Tribe Rise, flu-shots by Pasadena’s Huntington Hospital, and mask giveaways.
The Get Covered center at the Pasadena NAACP Branch will operate by appointment at their office located at 595 Lincoln Ave. on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm -- and virtually at other times -- up until Covered California’s Jan. 31 open-enrollment deadline. More NAACP branches in Southern California and beyond also are expected to open “Get Covered” centers in the coming weeks to help enroll more people of color into health coverage, as well as support efforts for future COVID-19 vaccinations. Covered California recently announced it has extended the enrollment deadline to Dec. 30 to have health coverage start on Jan. 1.
