On Saturday, May 12, 2012, the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is hosting its 24th Annual "Fashionetta: Scholarship and Salute to Mother's Fundraiser Luncheon and Fashion Show" at the Glendale Hilton. Among many activities taking place during the afternoon is recognition of the 2012 Scholarship Recipients where over $11,000 in awards will be given to graduating, college bound seniors from the Pasadena/ San Gabriel Valley Area.
Scholarships will be given in different categories like Health/Science, Math/Technology, Most Improved GPA and more. Students from schools throughout the area applied, and recipients are coming from a variety of schools like John Muir, Marshall and Pasadena High School. With scholarship, recognition and much needed support to college bound students being a priority of the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., we are excited that we are recognizing students from so many different schools from the Pasadena area. Through the blessings and support of the community, the organization has achieved a couple of their goals of increasing the amount of each scholarship and adding a Special Needs Scholarship.
Beyond scholarship, we will also honor Ms. Lena Kennedy as the 2012 Mother of the Year. This fun filled occasion has something for everyone! You'll be entertained by the live music of Marvelous Marvin and a fashion show brought to you by The Velvet Monkey. You'll also enjoy a wonderful meal, and you can 'shop til you drop' with our vendors and their unique creations. It is a great way for the whole family to celebrate the special women in your life while making a difference in the community.
The monies raised at this 501(c)3 event will fund future scholarships for college bound graduating seniors from the San Gabriel Valley and support the community benefiting programs of the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Some of these programs are the Annual Health Summit, Annual Power Networking Event, Annual Scholarship Workshop, on-going support of Union Station, Global Poverty initiatives, Young Authors, and much more. Please visit our website at aka-elo.org to learn more about our activities in this wonderful community that we have had the honor to serve for the last 52 years.
