I was a fan of the Giants Baseball Team when there were still in New York. I maintained some interest in the team, even when they moved to San Francisco. As a new native of Southern California, I still could not break my emotional bond to the team. I always rooted for the Dodgers, when they played anyone other than the Giants.
My daughter Joan lives in San Francisco. She may be the number one Giant fan in the entire world. She is so dedicated to them that it is just a little bit frightening. She simply does not ever want them to lose. She was very worried after they lost the first game in Kansas City, and absolutely thrilled when they won game two.
At this moment, the Giants are leading the series, three games to two, and the last two games will be played in Kansas City. The interesting thing about these teams is that in many ways, they are very similar. They are not overburdened with star players, but they both have players who really hustle. No matter how bad the situation looks, they simply will not give up. This approach allows them to turn defeats into victories.
An interesting fact about this World Series is the lack of African American stars. This is not an indictment, just an observation. Today, many of the great African-American Athletes are playing Basketball or Football. Some of them could also play baseball today, if they chose to do so.
I had forgotten how compelling baseball can be. The Royals are a relentless bunch, and they will keep the pressure on. We were all wondering if Madison Bumgarner could hold them off. He could and he did. The outcome of this series is unpredictable and that is why they play the games.
The NBA season starts this week. The Clippers are optimistic, but the Lakers are not. The Clippers have improved their roster with some key players, and they have also added some additional coaches. They expect to go deep into the Playoffs, and to possibly win the NBA Championship.
