During the COVID-19 crisis, the Pasadena Senior Center offers many free online activities via Zoom for adults 50 and older until mandates for isolation and social distancing have been lifted.
Members and non-members of the Pasadena Senior Center are welcome to participate in all events. Residency in Pasadena is not required. Please note Zoom activities require online registration. Everyone who registers for Zoom events will receive email instructions for joining activities online. Cosmic Cocktails with Carnegie Observatories — Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. Dr. John Mulchaey, director of Carnegie Observatories, will present a program about a revolutionary ultra-deep field image captured by the Hubble Telescope that aimed at a tiny patch of sky previously assumed to be empty space. The image revealed as many as 10,000 galaxies of all shapes, sizes, colors and ages never seen before. Live Your Life with Diabetes — Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. The major responsibility for your care rests with you. Cultural Thursday: The History and Traditions of Valentine’s Day — Thursday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. Who was St. Valentine, and how did he inspire Valentine’s Day? Learn about who wrote the first valentine, pagan celebrations of love, the many meanings of flowers, the popularization of valentine cards and everyone’s favorite putto, Cupid. Ask the Pasadena Senior Games Athletes: Pickleball — Monday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. The athletes will discuss this sport that is rising in popularity, offer tips on how to get mentally and physically fit with pickleball and in life, and answer questions from participants. Join tai chi instructor Irene Yung and other special guests for a festive hour that will celebrate the traditions of Chinese New Year, from the lion dance to foods that bring good luck.
