Fun Metro on the Go – Thursday, Jan. 2, at 10 a.m. Learn about Metro’s local and regional transportation system, including buses and light rail, plus connectivity within Los Angeles County and the On the Move Riders Program for older adults, then see how easy and enjoyable Metro travel can be for visits to popular attractions, shopping and medical appointments. Presented by Metro. Friday Movie Matinees – Fridays, Jan. 3 to 31, at 1 p.m. Watching a movie can be revitalizing, allowing us to relax and disconnect for a couple of hours. Jan. 3: “The Art of Racing in the Rain” (2019, PG) starring Milo Ventimiglia and Amanda Seyfried. A witty and philosophical golden retriever named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner) gains insight into the human condition at the side of his best friend, a Formula One race car driver. Jan. 10: The classic movie musical “Fiddler on the Roof” (1971, G) starring Topol and Norma Crane. A humble Jewish peasant attempts to hold on to his faith’s traditions while constantly challenged by poverty, increasingly ominous intimidation by anti-Semitic czarist offi cials and the pressure to marry off his daughters to ideal Jewish husbands. Jan. 17: “The Goldfi nch” (2019, R) starring Oakes Figley and Nicole Kidman. After his mother is killed in a bombing, a teenage boy experiences grief, guilt, reinvention, redemption and love while holding on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day – a painting of a tiny goldfi nch chained to its perch. Jan. 24: “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” (2019, PG-13) starring Cate Blanchett and Billy Crudup. A loving mom and brilliant architect is compelled to reconnect with her creative passions after years of sacrifi cing for her family, then, when she disappears without a trace, her family sets off on an adventure to solve the mystery of where she might have gone. Jan. 31: “Judy” (2019, PG-13) starring Renée Zellweger and Rufus Sewell. Thirty years after “The Wizard of Oz” shot her to stardom, Judy Garland arrives in London to perform a fi ve-week, sold-out run and butts heads with management, charms musicians and reminisces with friends and adoring fans while living up to her legendary status as “the world’s greatest entertainer.” Taxi Vouchers – Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Low-income adults who are 50 and older and live in the Pasadena area will receive vouchers for taxi rides within a fourmile radius of their residences. Proof of income and a California ID are required. Each qualifi ed recipient will receive two free vouchers worth $11 each. Quantities are limited. Arranging for Final Wishes – Thursday, Jan. 9, at 10 a.m. Nobody wants to leave a burden on family members to decide whether to have their remains buried or cremated. Come learn about the option of cremation and how you can make your own decisions about your fi nal matters. Presented by Neptune Society. Cultural Thursdays: Great American Songwriters/Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart – Thursday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. Join pianist Bob Lipson and commentator/singer Don Snyder for “An Era of Wit and Sophistication: Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart” featuring songs from their hit musicals including “Pal Joey,” “Jumbo,” “Babes in Arms” and more. Food Distribution Program – Friday, Jan. 10, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Low-income individuals 60 and older will receive one box of food and couples will receive two. Proof of income and a California ID are required for fi rst-time clients. Boxes are heavy, so bring a personal cart. Savvy Caregiver Express – Fridays, Jan. 10 to 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, how to respond to changing behaviors and connect with community resources. Attendance in all three workshops is required. Senior Reduced Metro Fair Signup Day – Friday, Jan. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. Adults 62 and older will receive assistance in submitting an application for reduced Metro fares on buses and light rail lines, getting identifi cation photos taken, receiving temporary reduced fare cards and purchasing TAP cards. LA Opera Talk: “Eurydice” – Monday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. An LA Opera community educator will share insights into the upcoming production of the new opera “Eurydice” by Matthew Aucoin and Sarah Ruhl. In the traditional legend, Orpheus goes on a quest to try and rescue his newlywed bride Eurydice from the underworld. In this new opera, told from Eurydice’s point of view, she reconnects in the underworld with her beloved father, then must make a choice between staying with him or returning to her husband in the land of the living. Romance Scams – Thursday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. Many older adults fall victim to scams that involve perpetrators feigning romantic intentions toward them, gaining their affections and then using that goodwill to fraudulently obtain their life savings and prey on their physical and emotional well-being. Come learn how to seek protection from potential abusers, report crimes that are the result of a victim’s growing dependency on abusers and how to access resources related to victim services. How Will Voting Change? – Monday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. Voting Systems for All People is a new, more secure and transparent voting system that will debut in time for the 2020 California presidential primary in Los Angeles County.
