HIV & the Black Female at First AME Church

Join AIDS Service Center (ASC) for a panel discussion on 'HIV & the Black Female' to be held at the First AME Church, 1700 North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91103 on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. The discussion is intended to further the process of normalizing the dialogue on HIV/AIDS in our community.

In 2010 black women accounted for 29 percent of the estimated new HIV infections among all adult and adolescent black people.

Most HIV infections among black women are attributed to heterosexual sex.

The estimated rate of new HIV infections for black women was twenty times higher than for white women and almost five times higher than that of Latinos.

Young black women are among the hardest hit by HIV.

Panelists: Dr. Michael Gottlieb - leading HIV/AIDS Medical Specialist, Karen Tinsley – MSW & former Director of Mental Health Services, ASC, Dana Edwards – Outreach/Prevention Coordinator, ASC.

The discussion will be moderated by Alisha Celestine.
