Compton Mayor Aja Brown to Speak at Christ the Shepherd Church, Altadena

Black news from Pasadena - Religion - Compton Mayor Aja Brown to speak at Women's MinistryCompton Mayor Aja Brown — the youngest mayor the city has ever elected — will be the guest speaker at Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church's Women in Ministry Sunday, on Sunday, October 5, 2014, 10:00 a.m.

The daughter of a single mother, Brown grew up in Altadena and became involved in public service while a student at the University of Southern California. Women in Ministry Sunday celebrates the service, leadership, and dedication of women in the church and in the community.

Ms. Brown's election on June 4, 2013 made history in Compton. An experienced urban community development professional, Brown has dedicated her career to initiating change in disadvantaged communities, and has built a legacy of developing and implementing public policies to facilitate guided growth, protect community assets and to ensure residents are included into every aspect of the development process.



Senior Pastor William Turner Jr Celebrates 47 Pastoral Years

The community at large throughout the Los Angeles and surrounding counties are invited to an Appreciation Banquet at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, 855 N. Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena.

Our keynote speaker is the dynamic Wilma Louise A. Turner, Ph.D., wife of Pastor Turner and First Woman of New Revelation MBC.

Theme: "A Time to Honor" – Romans 12:10.

Pastor and Mrs. Turner will grace the platform as they honor Pastors' wives throughout southern California, namely: Mrs. Anita Duncan (Spirit & Truth Baptist Church, Lancaster); Mrs. Doris C. Gaddis (Greater True Light Missionary Baptist Church, Los Angeles); Mrs. Charlee Kessee (Bethany Baptist Church of West LA, Los Angeles); Mrs. Albert Nicholas (Pilgrim Baptist Church, Los Angeles); Mrs. Evelyn Perkins (True Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Los Angeles); Mrs. Trudell Skinner (Metropolitan Baptist Church, Pasadena); Mrs. Betty Smith (New Salem Baptist Church, Pasadena); Mrs. Sandra Thomas (First Woman emerita Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Pasadena); (Mrs. Rinnita Thompson (Southern Missionary Baptist Church, Los Angeles); Mrs. Togetta Ulmer (Faithful Central Bible Church, Los Angeles); Mrs. Jacquie Wade (Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Los Angeles); and Mrs. Earlee Washington (Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Los Angeles).
