Caltech-Occidental Concert Band Presents Fall Concert Series

Pasadena, CA - October 15, 2014 - The Caltech-Occidental Concert Band, directed by William Bing, presents their Fall Concert Series this November. They will perform on Friday, November 21st at 8:00 p.m. in Caltech Ramo Auditorium, featuring guest conductor Sharon Lavery, Co-Conductor of the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble, as well as the Blair High School Concert Band directed by Michael Birnbryer.

Music selections include "The Star Spangled Banner" music by John Stafford Smith, arranged by Luigi Zanilelli; "Danzon No. 2" by Arturo Marquez; "Variations on America" by Charles Ives; "March" from Symphonic Metamorphosis, by Paul Hindemith; "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre; and "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen, arranged by H. Robert Reynolds.

The second concert of the series will take place on Sunday, November 23rd at 3:30 p.m. Thorne Hall at Occidental College. This concert will also feature the Caltech-Occidental Concert Band, with guest conductor Sharon Lavery, as well as the Loma Linda Academy Wind Symphony, directed by Giovanni Santos, performing "Italian Polka" by Sergei Rachmaninoff, arranged by Lucas; Eric Whitacre's "Sleep"; Donald Grantham's Sweet Canaan from Spangled Heavens; Frank Ticheli's "Sanctuary"; and the second movement of David Maslanka's "Give Us This Day".

African American news from Pasadena - Arts - Lori Ann Piscioneri opens Pasadena Community Orchestra seasonPasadena, CA – October 14, 2014 - On Friday, November 14, 2014, coloratura soprano Lori Ann Fuller Piscioneri, who has been a soloist with the Los Angeles Opera and Los Angeles Philharmonic, joins the Pasadena Community Orchestra in the gala opening concert of the orchestra's 32nd season. Audiences will be caught up in the dramatic sweep and beauty of the arias Piscioneri will sing and the instrumental works Music Director Bethany Pflueger has selected to complement them.

A native of Louisiana, Ms. Fuller Piscioneri made her operatic debut in London in 1999 with conductor Sir Andrew Davis. She has since performed with numerous opera companies and symphony orchestras throughout the United States and Europe, portraying coloratura heroines from Verdi to Mozart, as well as musical theater ingénues. Since moving to Southern California, Ms. Fuller Piscioneri has sung roles in numerous productions by the L.A. Opera, and some of her most memorable concert performances have been with the L.A. Philharmonic.
