Hopkins Village
Hopkins Village is a unique and whimsical breezeway, patio, garden-like atmosphere,
with hints of being Pasadena’s only Afrocentric theme village, complete with life size fiberglass giraffee’s,
an elephant and a camel. See our newest patio addition - a black and white pig standing near the resident fireman and Bob's
Big Boy - in living color. For children, there is the "Journal Express" train for their experience and enjoyment --
a great photo opportunity.
A covered patio provides patrons a unique opportunity to sit in a waterfall,
garden setting reminiscent of the popular style of the New Orleans coffee house, "Café Du'monde", have coffee, tea or
juice, with something sweet to eat, at Grammy's Place Coffee & Gift Shop. Enjoy lunch it in a serene patio with a friendly and a game of checkers or a good book which you can check out on
each visit.
Hopkins Village is home to Grammy’s Place, New U Beauty Supply, The Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley Journal News, Head II Toe Beauty Salon, Law Offices of Joe C.
Hopkins and J.D.Institute. These businesses are providing jobs for 20 local residents.
Visitors to the ever changing village have included Congresswoman Maxine Waters,
Inspirational speaker Jewel Diamond Taylor, Black Writers on tour founder, publisher and author Dr. Rosie Milligan. Congressman
Adam Schiff and City of Pasadena council members Gordo, Holden and Streator, and many others.
In addition to the various marketplaces which are held in the parking lot of
Hopkins Village, the breezeway/garden area is also used for receptions, teas, book signings, meetings and luncheons.
Hopkins Village is located at 1541 -1549 North Lake Avenue (corner of Lake and Howard), Pasadena,
CA 91104,
