Horses, Dogs and Republicans 9/29/21
In the 1960s, the world watched as dogs and fire hoses were used on black Americans seeking rights. Today, we watched as the Republican directed border patrol on horseback, in bounty-hunter style used horses to stop black Haitian immigrants, crossing the border seeking rights after their country was destroyed by earthquake and floods, and their President being assassinated. The people being assaulted by men on horseback, using reins as whips against those black immigrants. These tactics have never been used on any other immigrants crossing American borders. That tells the world what Republican Americans think of blacks. Not much! Texas Governor Greg Abbot is so impressed with the riders that he has said that he has a job for any border patrol rider who loses their job. The former President thinks the horsemen are doing a fantastic job. American blacks have gone through Slavery, Jim Crow, and terrorism, all in the pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality in this, our homeland. What’s next? America’s history has demonstrated that White America hates all non-white people, whether they are Asians or Middle Eastern Whites. When they enter this country, they must pay a so-called race tax. Would someone please tell the Republicans that we are human and not four-legged animals and that Slavery is over? Bull Whips, Horse Lassos, and water hoses are all equipment and not made for use on men, women, and children. These items have been weaponized to use on blacks. I am reminded of Jesse Jackson’s mantra when he says, “I am somebody… I may be on welfare, but I am Somebody. I may be small, but I am Somebody. I may have made mistakes, but I am Somebody...” I wonder what the reaction would be if white people were treated the same as black people when they use Dogs and Horses and Water Hoses to Terrorize their people. Again, I say, “We are not animals”. The Haitians thought they would be safe by coming to America. They need to catch up on American History. Americans are cruel in their treatment of people who are not white. History will remind us that America took Japanese people’s property and locked Japanese them up in Concentration Camps. America separated Mexican children from their parents and locked them into cages. America made laws that excluded Asian Americans from America. America excluded people of Muslim Religion from America and expressed animosity for people of the Jewish Faith. We criticize people who kneel to say a prayer, and we claim in our Declaration of Independence that, “All men are created equal”. These statements are true. We just need all Americans to act on those words. I am reminded of the words of a song by songwriters: Hal David and Burt Bacharach and sung by Aretha Franklin that merely says, “Say a little prayer for me…” I would add to that, “Say a little prayer for America too”! |
