Ask Amber
Dear Amber,
My brother recently found a small dog in our backyard. I don’t know where
it came from but it has been hanging around our house for the last week. Everyday my brother will go outside and feed it any
leftovers that we have. He even went to the store and brought dog food.
My mom keeps saying that she doesn’t want a dog around, but she has also
starting feeding it everyday. Not only has the dog been eating here, but it has been sleeping on our patio every night. I
don’t think he leaves our backyard anymore.
I think the dog belongs to someone else. But since both my brother and mom are
feeding it, I think we are going to keep it. How can I find out if the dog belongs to another family?
Signed,
We Have a New Pet
Dear We Have a New Pet,
By the way your mom has been feeding the dog, it sounds like she is okay with
keeping it. I think if she really did not want the dog to stick around, she should stop feeding it and it will eventually
leave. But until then, as long as you mom is okay with it, take a picture of the dog and take the photo to the animal shelter.
You can leave your name and number and if anyone recognizes the dog, they can call you to arrange a time to pick it up from
you. You might even want to try putting signs around the neighborhood.
Until then, I think you should enjoy the time with the dog. You might want to consider putting
a fence to make sure he doesn't get out of the yard and hit by a car.
