Presidential
Politics Mirror Real Life
As long as George Bush is speaking to crowds of Republicans who applaud him no matter what
he says, he is fine. Even when he makes statements like "exporting and outsourcing American jobs to India is good for America",
the loyal Republicans applaud him. He says the war in Iraq is going well and we should stay the course. Loyal Republicans
applauded even while 25,000 Iraqui’s and over 1,000 Americans are being buried and the Iraq infrastructure is being
destroyed. The loyal Republicans applauded, I guess, because the more buildings, bridges and roads in Iraq that are destroyed,
the more work there will be for Haliburton and the other American companies to rebuild. I often wonder who built those buildings
in the first place. Why can’t the contracts to rebuild Iraq go to Iraqi companies? Maybe that is why they applaud. The
Republican loyals can see that the longer the ultra right wing conservatives stay in office the more money they can make at
the expense of others.
The most peculiar thing about Bush and the Conservatives is their selling the American public
on the idea that you can take in less money from taxes and spend more creating a larger deficit for future generations, and
that is OK. I heard someone say this week after the debates that if George Bush fell over dead during the debate, the loyals
would say that that was a good move and that he won. Well the realities are that George Bush didn’t win the first debate
and if there was a truth buzzer in life, and if the conservatives cared about the truth, he wouldn’t win the upcoming
election either.
Of course there is one other thing that has to happen for George Bush to lose and that is
that democrats and people who claim to be truth loving Christians, Jews, and Muslims, have to vote with an eye toward peace,
justice and freedom.
Trying to change the Muslim world to a Christian model with oil as a prize seems to be the
Bush/conservative goal . If freedom for all people from tyrants was the true conservative goal, then America would be in Sudan
trying to stop the tribal genocide that is going on there. I guess if Sudan had more oil, then America would be there.
As an aside, the so-called moderate Republicans have recently began to speak out and put
some distance between themselves and the far right wing side of their party. The problem is that there are so few who are
willing to stand up against the powerful conservative machine that they are not being heard. One exception is Rhode Island
Senator, Lincoln Chafee. According to a recent New York Times article, Chafee feels disappointed with the Bush program,
but he is like a voice crying in the wilderness and is being ignored by the idealogues. They are the conservatives that don’t
mind, destroying the environment, don’t mind destroying affordable health care, don’t mind destroying tort law
(ordinary citizen rights) dedicated to getting justice for the masses, don’t mind killing Iraqi’s to save them,
and don’t mind creating a budget deficit and shipping American jobs overseas, as long as it helps the ‘good old
boys’ in big business.
The other thing that demonstrates the dishonesty of the conservatives is the issue of gay
marriage. The Republicans know that there is no chance of getting a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, however,
they know that by mouthing the words they will get a certain number of people who will forget that we have lost millions of
jobs to vote Republican because the image is that they are against homosexuality. Included in the number of those who are
taking the bait are Black so-called religious leaders and high profile gospel singer Donnie McClurkin. A vote for a ban on
gay marriages also means a vote for continued loss and reduction of American jobs and affordable health care for all Americans.
And while I am not promoting gay marriages, it’s a trick that will have Blacks voting for Bush and sabatoging their
own self interests, where jobs, equal educational opportunities, health care and affirmative action are concerned.
With the debates continuing, it is my hope that the truth will not suffer any more than
it has, but then that’s politics. Sometimes the best liar wins.
