An Exceptional Oopportunity with the Pasadena Educational Foundation, Pasadena, California

Application Deadline – Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 5 p.m. (PST)

Established in 1971, the non-profit Pasadena Educational Foundation advocates for public education, engages the community and develops resources to support excellent education for every student in the Pasadena Unified Schools District, which serves Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre, California.  Last year, the foundation raised more than $11 million from individuals, businesses, foundations and state and federal agencies. The foundation also manages programs including a growing summer enrichment program (with over 900 students in 2010), robotics, college preparatory and scholarship programs, and a teacher grant program.  The foundation has seven permanent staff members.

Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre are among the most livable communities in the country, with a rich history, scenic beauty, marked demographic diversity and significant resources, including many nationally known institutions like Caltech, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Huntington Library, the Norton Simon Museum, Art Center College of Design, Fuller Theological Seminary and Pasadena City College.

The PUSD is an urban K through 12 school district with 28 schools and 19,000 students, two thirds of whom are eligible for free-reduced meals.  With excellent leadership, the PUSD has been making solid progress in recent years, and is poised for more.  With sufficient community support, the PUSD will once again be a model of excellence in K through 12 education.  However, like all school districts in California, the PUSD has been hurt lately by dramatic state budget cuts, which make the foundation’s work more important and urgent than ever.

Working with the foundation board of directors, board committees and staff, the successful applicant will be expected to significantly increase public awareness of the foundation and public support of the foundation and the PUSD.
