Some time ago, I heard an analyst say we don’t need a smart man in the White House, we just need a guy with five working digits (fingers) that can sign his name on bills, can write and can nominate people for Federal judges who can win. With the guy in the White House they have now, he has the digits, but they are attached to an idiot. Unbelievably, he’s currently in the contest for a second term. His campaign rally comes with a waiver for attendees to sign that if they get sick due to Covid-19, so they can’t sue the Presidential campaign.
This administration says there will not be a second wave of the coronavirus. If there is not going to be a second wave, why does anyone need to sign a waiver? I wonder: Do White people really hate Black folks so much they would vote for this guy again? The last Democratic president was a genius. This Republican is an idiot, but I have seen people vote for canines. It is interesting that a Republican rally was scheduled to be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday, June 19, 2020 or Juneteenth. Tulsa is the place where the Black Wall Street massacre occurred in 1921; when White people destroyed the center of Black wealth. Juneteenth is the day that Black America celebrates the day the news that slavery was over and that Black slaves were free finally reached Texas. This news came two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, which was clearly intended to be a slight to Black Americans. Coupled with holding a rally in Oklahoma, the Republicans will discuss the fate of the statues of Confederate Generals, as some are considered to have been traitors to America. I heard a young woman say, in effect, “When we make a little progress, like Black Wall Street, White people’s hatred and jealousy of us causes them to destroy it. This is similar to the destruction of a Black neighborhood in Philadelphia, the contamination of the water in Flint, Michigan and Allensworth, CA and the dismantling of the Black Panthers. We have always sought justice and equality. It’s good we aren’t seeking revenge. To that I say, “Amen.” In his book, “Black Wall Street”, Hannibal B. Johnson describes the progress and accomplishments Black Americans made for themselves. A Black-owned airline, operated by Simon Berry, who also owned the Royal Hotel in Tulsa. The hotel accommodated George Washington Carver, Marion Anderson, Mary McLeod Bethune, Lena Horne, Dinah Washington and many others. Berry’s hotel was a class accommodation to those who could not stay at White-owned hotels because of discrimination laws. The historic Rosewood District (aka Black Wall Street) was the center of Black business and entertainment. Discrimination laws were so prevalent that Black doctors, lawyers, teachers and other professionals all formed their own professional associations, which does my heart good. I belong to two of these groups, the National Bar Association and the National Newspaper Association. It broke my heart to see Black Republicans support the rally in Tulsa on Juneteenth because, once again, it’s an attempt to destroy one of our accomplishments. The 1921 destruction of Black Wall Street left over 300 Black Americans dead; and brought about the total destruction of Black-owned homes and businesses. It has been called the worst race riot in American history. Vanessa Hall Harper, a current Black City Councilwoman in Atlanta, called it a slap in the face. I say it is more like spitting jealousy and hate in our face. Juneteenth should become the basis for another Black Wall Street because have few nationally-known Black hotels, transportation companies, supermarkets, manufacturing companies and the list goes on. The Republican rally has now been moved to June 20th, to avoid the obvious conflict with Juneteenth. Dr. Ben Carson recently said we need to “grow up and not be so concerned about dates, statues and other symbols”. I think he needs to turn in his “Black card”. I say he’s already sold it and may has spent his 30 pieces of silver, too. |
