COVER STORY
Kamala Harris Picked for Vice President
California Senator Kamala Harris has been chosen to run with Joe Biden as his Vice-Presidential running mate. The 55-year-old former California Attorney General was chosen because of her expansive experience and in part because the Democrats have relied on black votes, and particularly black women, for years. Also, many have said that it was past time. California State Senator Portantino, who has worked with Harris over the years, called it an outstanding choice.
As a former prosecutor and Attorney General, Harris brings her expansive legal experience to become a historical figure who can step into the role of President when the time comes. Harris, whose mixed heritage includes Asian and black is a proud Howard University graduate and AKA sorority member. Her racial background checks off a large number of well qualified boxes and guarantees a wall of mixed support. Support for Harris was immediate and includes former President Barack Obama, Michele Obama and Oprah Winfrey. Black women, often called the backbone of the democratic party, and little black girls can hold their heads up high. Congressman Jim Clyburn said his daughters were, “over the moon with joy at the choice of a Howard University graduate.” |
