Looking Foward - The Good Bad and the Ugly
2021 will be best known as the year America moved back to its roots of hatred, as evidenced by the January 6 Riot. Now, we are left with traitors sitting in Congress, just as we were during the time just before the Civil War. The January 6 Riot was conducted by the highest elected and appointed officers and officials in the land. These officials are known for being officials of the world’s most effective Democracy. A Democracy where the people choose its leader through open, free elections and which serves as a demonstration project for the world. America is a land that has elevated the descendants of slaves to President and now a female Vice President leader of the so-called free world. Since President Obama, these facts have angered the American white world who never want a person of color to lead the country again, so much so, that it has given birth to white Revolutionaries who talk of Civil War again. The same hatred that elected Barack Obama gave rise to his inexperienced successor and the hatred that led to the Riot of January 6. 2001. For every story of success of Black Americans, there is a compromising story of hatred and ugliness. We believe that Thomas Jefferson absolutely loved Sally Hemings, yet she was his slave who he traveled to France and other parts of the world with her by his side. The story of Tulsa, Oklahoma is rich with the economic success of Black America, followed by a riot that demonstrated hatefullness that destroyed Black Wall Street. Amanda Gorman, a young Black female poet, reflects on 2003 when in her inauguration poem she said, speaking at a US Capitol that just two weeks before was the site of a harrowing attempt to overthrow American democracy, “America is more than pride we inherit, it is the past we stepped into, and a life to repair.” [CNN] Gorman bridged the violence of January 6 with the anguish felt by so many Americans of color but described the country as ready to begin anew under President Joe Biden. Attempts at reparations have been made but are not sufficient. In California, Bruce’s Beach was re-gifted to the Bruce family, after years of depriving them of their possession. In the meantime, Black History has been outlawed in public schools. White Conservative America is about to repeat the 1921 riot it performed to deprive Black America of the wealth gained to that point. The thought of Kamala Harris becoming President following Joe Biden upsets the white supremacists to no end. It should be noted that for near eighty-five minutes, Harris served as America’s first female President as Joe Biden got a colonoscopy. It was interesting to discover that Harry Reid was the motivator behind Barack Obama's running for President. Reid, who recently passed away, had been house leader. He encouraged Obama to run for President. His story is the story of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Reid had been a professional boxer and as a kid and was the clean-up guy at his mother’s brothel. My guess is that in one or other of these experiences he has encountered Black men and discovered how smart they could be. America is home to over one hundred primarily Black colleges and universities, and yet job discrimination, and marriage, and housing discrimination are major elements in the land. Progress is evident everywhere. Levar Burton (Kunta Kinta, “Roots”) was the Grand Marshall of this year’s (2022) Rose Parade. He followed by a few years a Tournament of Roses Black President, Gerald Freeney. I recall being part of a group fighting and protesting Black absence at the Rose Parade a few years ago. At this point in America, we have in America where medical doctors doesn’t believe in medical vaccines. Should they keep their licenses? So-called ministers are supporting a lie that Joe Bidden is not the duly elected President of the United States and stole the election. We see thousands of Americans are willing to use violence to put the loser of an election in office, and put the loser in office for life, followed by his children. Thousands are willing to carry a Battle flag, carried by losers of the American Civil War, through the Capitol of the United States of America. It was not carried through the Capitol during the Civil War. Southerners call that flag, a flag of their heritage. Does that mean that they have a heritage of losers? The times they are changing. We must keep fighting. Happy Kwanzaa and Happy New Year! |
