“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36 KJV) In church, we sing a song about God’s faithfulness to us. We sing, “Great is thy faithfulness.” We tarry at the altar for hours saying, “Thank you Lord for all you have done for us, and we spout the Tenth Commandment that says we will not bear false witness, and then, when a charlatan comes with a pocketful of dreams, money and or potential votes for a potentially better job, we abandon God. I say we because God has been good to all of us, and yet we, as Americans, have taken His blessings and traded them for potential wealth, popularity, and fame.
The Republicans, Evangelicals, and Moral Majority, and other so-called Christian groups profess a belief in Jesus Christ and his teachings, but when a preacher comes along, like Reverend Jerimiah Wright, preaching a Social Gospel during the time when Barack Obama was a presidential candidate, these so-called Christians cast aside the scriptures as an afterthought and dogged Rev. Wright and Barack Obama causing Barack to denounced Rev. Wright and separate himself. There is a saying, and I will paraphrase it here, “Beware of the offers of the Evangelical Gospel who presents itself as an alternative to that of Jesus Christ, for it is inferior to that which they seek.” The belief in the twice impeached, woman abuser, serial liar Trump, they just want to touch the hem of his Brooks Brother’s garment. As they do this, they should remember his faithfulness and be truthful and thankful. Instead, they say to this guy, “Bless me.” Donald Trump admitted to sexual harassment, stole from laborers, stole from Realtors, stole from America by using Real Estate Agents, Appraisers, and Corporations to lie, and telling the big lie about him winning the Presidential election, by trying to overthrow American democracy to remain in power, and working to make America forget all about the riot at the U.S. Capitol, on June 6, 2021, by calling for the United States Capitol to be overrun in a violent insurrection and attempting to overthrow the United States Government, and now coupled with efforts to prevent true Christians from voting, he plans to make a second run for president in 2024. Electing Trump president for a second time makes me think that if the Devil himself was running, plenty of Evangelicals and so-called Christians would vote for him. |
