With the mayoral race taking place in Los Angeles, I am reminded of the 2020 Presidential Election between Biden and Trump. Today in Los Angeles, the choice is between Karen Bass and Rick Caruso. It is still unbelievable how some people could follow a person who wants the job so bad, they would do anything to win: pretending to be a billionaire, create false hope, promise the moon and the stars while over-stating unrealistic rewards for those who vote for him. These “grifter” like efforts, attempt to diminish his opponent’s accomplishments in efforts to introduce antiquated ideas of xenophobia.
I read somewhere a statement that parallels, in part, the statement: “Beware of the guy who promises you the moon and stars,” if he’s elected Mayor, because that which he offers is inferior to that which he seeks.” In Los Angeles, Caruso has promised hundreds of thousands of homes for the homeless, if he is elected Mayor. He is said he’d also hire hundreds to clean up the city streets. My question is, “What is he going to do if he is not elected? These problems will still exist and if he were sincere and a Billionaire, he could still have a positive effect, regardless of the mayoral race outcome. People like them always say they are going do this or that, if they win with your votes, but where have they been up to now? Now that a Black Woman is on her way to be Los Angeles’ first Black Woman Mayor, they pose and pontificate about what they are going do if you give them your vote, instead of what they have done, could have done, or should have done. Some of us remember Los Angeles Mayor Thomas Bradley and why he was not elected Governor of California in 1982 or 1987… he was Black. If we are not careful to not allow the race to be decided without us, we will have the same re-occurring nightmare of failure despite Karen Bass being more experienced, leading most polls and being most capable of managing the diverse nature of Los Angelinos economic and sociopolitical need. Do not allow another loss because she is Black. How long will we have to suffer this racism? Caruso spent more than sixty million dollars. Karen Bass spent four million dollars. Lots of money is being spent because it is important… hope towards discontinuing a collective dream deferred. |
