Portantino Honored by Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (SPLC)

Assemblymember Anthony Portantino was honored today by the Junior Leagues of California as their State Legislator of the Year. Assemblymember Portantino was recognized for his introduction of several important bills over the last several years in the areas of health, education and violence prevention.

"I am very honored to receive this award from the Junior Leagues of California. Pasadena has a very active Junior League chapter and it really makes fighting for youth in foster care to make sure that every woman has access to mammograms and ensuring that rapists are brought to justice a team effort. Together, we are committed to defending our fundamental rights and these important women's health issues," said Portantino.

Rep. Schiff Applauds President Obama’s Endorsement of Marriage Equality

Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) released the following statement after President Barack Obama endorsed gay marriage:

"Today, President Obama announced that he would support marriage equality for all Americans. The President's strong statement is something that I am proud to support, and an issue of great significance to the country. Marriage equality extends one of our most basic rights of citizenship to all Americans – that is, the right to marry the person you love.

"It's my sincere hope that marriage equality will soon become the law of the land, and as the President indicated, we can learn a lot from the changing views of the younger generation."

Portantino’s Tattoo Removal Bill Approved By Assembly

AB 1956 Help for Women Branded by Pimps

Assemblymember Anthony Portantino's AB 1956 which provides a first step in breaking the bonds of prostitution and helping young victims begin new, meaningful lives, received overwhelming, bi-partisan approval in the state Assembly – 72 to 0 – today.

"It has become a disturbing trend for young women to be tattooed for the purposes of prostitution and human trafficking. These individuals are forced to carry around these tattoos or "brands" on their body, as a constant reminder of their exploitation and abuse," explained Assemblymember Portantino.
