Re-establishing a forty-year tradition, Farnsworth Park will again be the site of Altadena's community Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 12, at 6:00 AM. The park's beautiful amphitheater, originally built in 1938, was undergoing remodeling last Easter, and the Sunrise Service was held at a local church. This year, the service will be "back home" in its inspiring outdoor environment. The amphitheater is at 568 E. Mount Curve Ave. (corner of Lake Ave.).
The Easter message of victory will be proclaimed through Scripture readings, inspiring music and shared testimonies. The sermon will be preached by Rev. Laurence H. Adams, Pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pasadena. The praise musicians will provide the rousing music of the season, and the congregation will join for familiar Easter anthems.
This annual event has been planned and organized by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Pasadena. The organization's current President is Rev. Nicholas M. Benson, and the Coordinator for this event is Rev. John B. Bledsoe. The Sunrise Service is also supported by the Ecumenical Council of Pasadena Area Churches. Together, these two groups represent over seventy churches from many denominations.
The Sunrise Service will be free to the public and open to all. No one has to dress up.
