ON COP WATCH

As the stories keep coming in about how Blacks are treated by the Sheriff in Altadena, this week a white resident came to talk to me. He told me that he has broken lights on his vehicle. He intentionally continues driving his car all around Altadena and has never been stopped by the Sheriff. Months have passed and he has still not been stopped even though he knows that his Black friends get stopped all the time and ticketed for this, and less. He noted that it's the younger cops that stop people and hand out trumped up tickets. The older deputies have stopped African Americans to tell them that a light is out, but don't ticket them. I recently spoke with Joe Brown, President of the Pasadena NAACP, regarding an incident with a young man who was stopped by the Altadena Sheriff and abused for no reason. Brown called the Altadena Sheriff Station as well as the La Cresenta Sheriff Station. He got no further than a Corporal Stokes who told him that he would have to make an appointment to talk to Captain Blow.

Also, his efforts at getting a complaint form were futile. He was able to get a complaint form from my office.
