Repeat Good Historical Examples to Get to The Good Life

African American news from Pasadena - Editorial - Family success tipsIn watching the latest news, I was reminded of the book, "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry. I read Wikipedia's description of where the story line came from and learned that the real story was based on Hansberry's family story when they bought a house in Washington, D.C., in about 1937. The owner of the house wanted the money from the sale of the house, however, his wife brought a lawsuit (Hansberry vs. Lee, 1940), to enforce the restrictive covenant in force at the time that said White folks couldn't sell to Black folks.

He said someone wanted to figure a way to keep Black folks down. He then said that they were given a gift to make it happen. The gift was public education. I am convinced that public education has many problems, but it is up to parents to make up the differences to try to equalize the educational experience.

A Tragic Mother's Day, For Some

Black news from Pasadena - Editorial - Mother's Day in the me-only worldIn Nigeria, one of Africa's largest countries, 223 girls (and counting) have been abducted from their boarding school while they were sleeping. As the story goes, a terrorist group called Boko Haram entered with guns and kidnapped the girls in the middle of the night. After taking the girls, the group burned down the school. Boko Haram apparently means western education for girls is forbidden.

African American news from Pasadena - Editorial - Remember today's history for tomorrow - Donald Sterling - Cliven BundyAt church on Easter Sunday, my wife and I noticed a child about one year old clapping her tiny hands and dancing to the lively music. As the week went on, I couldn't help but think about that child and the fact that she has a few lessons to learn, but starting by learning to love church is the right place to begin, because getting a start in the wrong place can be damaging.
