Women of Achievement to Honor Women of the Church

Black news from Pasadena - Editorial - Women of Achievement to honor women of the churchOver the past seven years the Pasadena Journal has honored women leaders. They include women from social service organizations including AKA and Delta Sororities, Phi Delta Kappa, The Links, Women In Action, and Jack and Jill. We honored women in business as well as women pioneers including Pasadena's first Black teachers, principals, and realtors. We have also honored women in medicine and women in ministry. The event will be held April 12, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., at Brookside Club House, in Pasadena, CA.

What is Your Black History Story?

African American news from Pasadena - Editorial - What is your black history?I remember community college being free and available to every student as providing a career path or a road to a four year college career. With three siblings and three sons, we valued education and it made the difference for even those who for reasons that are insignificant did not graduate. Somewhere along the way, it became another family expense. Not getting the education could have been even more expensive.

Black History is a Living and Changing Thing

Black news from Pasadena - Editorial - Contributing to Black History MonthNext month is the official time set for Black History Month. However, the life of every African American family is a contributor to Black History, every month and every day. I can remember things that happened that made my family history and how I contributed to it. For instance, this morning I woke up early to write this column and made myself coffee and cinnamon toast. I remember that my mother made us cinnamon toast by spreading some butter on bread, and sprinkling some cinnamon and sugar on top, and placing it in the lower oven (broiler).
