On June 30, 2021, Bill Cosby was released from prison after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sentence of 3 to 10 years in state prison for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. Cosby served about three years of his sentence. Many white people have expressed outrage.
On October 3, 1995, O. J. Simpson was tried for the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald "Ron" Goldman, who were stabbed to death outside Brown's condominium in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles on the night of June 12, 1994. The trial spanned eleven months, from the jury's swearing-in on November 9, 1994. Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of the murders. It is widely felt belief by many that Simpson allegedly got away with murder. Donald Trump violated the Hatch Act, admitted to sexual harassment, stole from laborers, stole from Realtors, stole from America by using Real Estate Agents, Appraisers, and Corporations to lie, and telling the big lie about him winning the Presidential election, by trying to overthrow American democracy to remain in power, and working to make America forget all about the riot at the U.S. Capitol, on June 6, 2021, by calling for the United States Capital to be overrun in a violent insurrection and attempting to overthrow the United States Government. Unlike Simpson and Cosby, Trump has not been charged or imprisoned, nor indicted or arrested. Black Wall Street resulted in a multimillion-dollar loss. Hundreds of black lives were taken because white people were mad. No one was indicted or arrested. In 1955, Emmit Till a young Chicagoan was taken from his family home and murdered by known individuals. No one was indicted or arrested. No one was indicted or arrested in the killing of thousands of black men and women, including Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor. Where is the upset and outrage? Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in 2008. Death threats began immediately. In 2000, Kamala Harris was elected Vice President of the United States. Death threats began immediately. Both Obama and Harris are brilliant Lawyers. Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review. He was later elected a United States Senator, representing Illinois, one of America’s largest states. Harris was elected Attorney General of the State of California, the second-largest state in the United States, and then elected Senator of the United States, representing California. The June 3 through June 9, 2021 issue of the Memphis Tri State Defender newspaper reported that the statue of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife were removed from a Science Park in Memphis and moved to a Museum in Memphis. Forrest was a founding member of the infamous Ku Klux Klan, which promoted HATE for Black Americans and dedicated to the maintenance of black slavery in America. Maintenance of the statue was taken care of by the city of Memphis with tax money from its black and white citizens. Forrest fought The United States and the Union, to keep black slavery in America, and today the government wants us to pay taxes to continue maintaining the statute of this traitor. It’s like paying to praise the keepers of slavery. Now, in 2021, the southern states want us to pay taxes while keeping us from voting, I don’t like it and if given a choice, I wouldn’t pay a dime. So I celebrate the removal of Forrest’s Statue and body from the city. I don’t think you can find a statue of a black slave who gave up to 250 years of free labor as a slave. If so please let me know where. The Thirteenth Amendment guarantees the right to citizenship to all Americans. The Fifteenth Amendment guarantees the right to vote to all citizens, therefore, Black Americans should have the unabridged and unfettered right to vote. Thousands have marched and died to guarantee that right. The Supreme Court keeps trying to find cute ways to keep black folks from voting. The latest trick says, in essence, “if they can’t vote, too bad, as long as the law says they can, they can”(all the while throwing up roadblocks, making it impossible to do so.) The law also says, in effect, “you have to intentionally keep someone from voting to violate the Constitution. So, unless you hold a gun on someone and say ‘you can’t vote’, they’re free to do so. The fact that they closeout voting polls near your home, say you can’t receive water or food while waiting in line, and you have limited hours to vote, you must vote on a particular day, and you can’t mail in your ballot, and can’t go from your church, otherwise, you are free to vote”. I say since Bedford Forrest is gone and you can’t re-enslave me, I guess you can just shoot me. The previous Republican president of the United States made a sarcastic remark today. He said, “They are removing the Thomas Jefferson Statue and replacing it with an Al Sharpton statue.” I can live with that. We now have to replace Bedford Forrest. The statue and remains have been removed to the National Confederate Museum at Elm Park, hundreds of miles away from Memphis. We note his policies are still being followed by the U.S. Supreme Court and the current Republicans, thanks to the last President of the United States. |
