My hat is off to pastor Tyrone Skinner who has celebrated 20 years of leadership as pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Pasadena. Under his leadership, the Young African American Male Leadership conference was created. This year's conference was held last weekend at Pasadena City College, serving over three hundred young men from this community.
I sat on a panel that talked about community leadership and where we go from here. A young Man, Wayne Jackson, who graduated from Howard University posed the statement that we need to unify and all head in the same direction. I thought of the fact that we were all there because of Pastor Skinner's leadership for 20 years. We were there for the purpose of leadership and to pass on the things we have learned over the years to the younger ones in the community and help them take on the leadership mantle.

I spent last week in Nassau, Bahamas. I had been asked to serve as the attorney for the Trumpet Awards, and so I went there as part of my new duties. First, everybody who knows me, knows I like to travel, but I like to travel with my wife, and this time, she declined to go. Something about wanting to get that new closet and, besides, she has been there before.

I am not sure that it matters who takes over the organization which still is the most important organization in the struggle for equality in America. Unlike international organizations where leadership passes from one person to another, the NAACP leads the country's massive population in their struggle for equality in America. It is the oldest Civil Rights organization in America and the one that holds the largest amount of power in terms of leadership.

If I were grading President Obama, I would give him an A minus. I would give him an A because he has achieved so many things that other presidents before him have failed to do. His primary legislative accomplishments have been the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare. I know it's a great accomplishment because the Republicans have dedicated their recent careers to trying to repeal it.

. . . That Built Motown and the Underground Railroad
My wife, Ruthie, and I recently travelled to the city of Detroit for the celebration of the life of our former pastor's wife, Sister Jackie Cushman. While paying our respects to the memory of a very special lady and Pastor Tyrone Cushman, we visited a few historical sites, during our visit. Although we have travelled to over twenty of the United States, three African countries, Paris, France, Manchester, and London, England, and a few Caribbean countries, this was our first trip to Detroit. We also visited Canada, which was just across the river from our hotel.
