Racism is Alive at the Trials 11/18/21
I will admit that I was shocked when I heard the Defense Attorneys in Ahmaud Abrey’s trial ask the Georgia Court to exclude all Black pastors and National Black Leaders from the trial. This, after picking a jury of eleven white Jurors and only one black Juror. I note that this is a city of fifty-five percent black with a black Mayor]. In the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, the attorneys can call the parties to the crime shoplifters, thieves and robbers, but can’t call the dead, victims. Congresswoman Karen Bass described the Abrey trial as, “a trial on a lynching.” In response to the request of no black Pastors, someone else said “One hundred Black Pastors will be invited to the trial.” The Attorney requesting no Black Pastors also mentioned not wanting Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton to attend the trial. I watched as the defendant Kyle Rittenhouse cried like a baby from the witness stand. A friend from Memphis Tennessee called me and said, “The kid, Rittenhouse, is faking.” I had paid that no attention until she said it. Now I wonder. Lebron James put out a statement that he didn’t see one tear from Rittenhouse. Republicans are now trying to outlaw books that teach about American racism, like Toni Morrison‘s award winning book, “Beloved”, and the book, “To Kill A Mockingbird”, along with other books that talk about race. Do they really think that they can hide America’s ugly racist history, The Ku Klux Klan and the Black Codes? I saw Dr Ben Carson reading from Dr. Seuss’ book, “Green Eggs and Ham”. I wonder why does the Good Doctor think that makes him closer to being white. He was the only black in the Trump Cabinet. Dr., you’re still just another Ni**ger in their eyes. I note that Republicans have taken to name calling and threatening violence to Women of Color, with no consequence. Why? Is there no consequence? Are the Republicans really that afraid of Donald. An Acquittal for either of these trials would be a victory for white racism. White Supremacy seems to be saying that Kyle Rittenhouse did the right thing by traveling to Kenosha with an assault rifle and killing two people and wounding a third. Rittenhouse was seventeen years old young who should not have been owning an Assault Rifle. One of the Defense Attorneys, not trying to hide his racist attitude said, “More Bubba’s are needed on the Jury”. I note that Republicans have taken to name calling and threatening violence to Women of Color, with no consequence. Why? Is there no consequence? Kim Janey, the newly elected Boston Mayor, joins Kamala Harris, Ruby Bridges, Karen Bass, Barbara Jordan, Isabel Wilkerson, Stacey Abrams, Shirley Chisholm, and Maxine Waters, and others as History makers moving forward. Are the Republicans really that afraid of Donald? I have practiced law in California at least forty years and I’ve never seen such outright racism. What we are witnessing is an example of southern slave hunters. These Republican actions make me understand the continuing battle of white racism by white Americans up to today. |
