INCIDENT INFORMATION
Start Date: 08/13/2020 Size: 4,237 acres Location: San Gabriel Canyon (Hwy 39) Containment: 63% North of Azusa, Los Angeles County, CA Cause: Human-Caused, Suspected Arson Assigned Resources Hand Crew: 4 Engines: 7 Dozers: 0 Total Personnel: 412 Helicopters: 3 Fixed Wing: 1 Water Tenders: 4 Current Conditions Overnight, the Ranch 2 Fire continued to be quiet, with no increase in acreage. The containment percentage has risen to 63 percent, and we expect that to increase again today. All flanks of the fire appear to remain stable, with spiked crews working the rugged terrain to seek out any isolated areas of heat and extending our firelines. Today, firefighters are focused on tying in the firebreaks on the western edge. This flank has been extremely challenging, with the steep terrain and consistent heat from the weather. The rest of the fire perimeter remains static, although we continue to patrol these areas, and back-haul our equipment and trash from the area. There are still reports of scattered heat located deep in some drainages, but crews are confident they will not be a threat to the lines and will act on any areas that may become active. Air operations will transport personnel to key areas and continue to support their operations through resupply, personnel shuttling, and air drops. Tropical Storm Genevieve, located off the California coast, still has the potential to complicate our efforts on the fireline. The National Weather Service has extended the flash flood watch for the San Gabriel and High Desert areas. Although the likelihood of rain in the fire area is only predicted at 10 percent, our crews will need to remain vigilant to any changes. Heavy debris flows resulting from heavy rain could affect trails on our lines, access roads, and communities near the bottom of the canyon drainages.
