Few of my demons are ever slain by New Year Resolutions. God has given me a revelation. Ephesian 4:48 - Let him that stole steal more but rather him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needth. No more making temporal New Year's Resolutions. Therefore this new year, 2014, I'm embracing a New Year's Revelation. As in a verse in Psalm 23, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me . . ." God has patiently guided me through nearly seven decades of, mostly self-induced, stumbling blocks to be a testimony to others. Titus 2:1-2: But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience.
God gave me this revelation; after 27 years of imprisonment at the rule of an unjust government, Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa at 76 years old. Therefore, I am not too old at 67 or without the wherewithal to influence the good in a few people.
Ministering and teaching through testimonies is my mission. Now I will go forth so that fewer people self-destruct from lack of knowledge. I know the risk and pitfalls of being lured by worldly influences. I learned valuable life skills by overcoming too many demons to mention, including imprisonment, alcoholism and being an irresponsible husband and father.
Today, I've been a born again Christian since 1990. I thank God for the hard lessons given me to become a good influence for my three grandchildren and a responsible son to my elderly mother. I am alcohol and crime-free for over two decades. I've also become a published author, playwright, poet, and newspaper columnist with a godly calling to counselor/mentor boys and men including other grandfathers struggling with spiritual and/or social issues. My New Year's Revelation is to offer my acquired life experiences to those willing to receive. Meanwhile, I wish everyone a Happy New Year.
