The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting list will be open for online applications from June 1, 2023, to June 15, 2023. The City of Pasadena Housing Department (CoPHD) has announced the planned opening of the waiting list for eligible households seeking rental assistance to afford housing.
To apply for the program, interested households must submit their applications online during the open waiting list period, which can be done using a computer, smartphone, or internet-connected tablet. However, submitting an application does not guarantee a place on the waiting list. The program provides Section 8 vouchers to eligible households, allowing them to choose a rental unit that meets acceptable health and safety standards and is approved by the CoPHD. The household pays approximately 30% of its monthly adjusted gross income for rent and utilities, with the CoPHD covering the difference based on the payment standard for the area. If the rent exceeds the area standard, the family must pay the additional amount, up to 40% of their monthly income. The CoPHD will only be able to accept a maximum of 7,500 applications, so if more than 7,500 applications are submitted, a random computerized selection process, along with the CoPHD waiting list preferences, will determine which applications get accepted to the waiting list and the order in which they are placed. It's important to note that the date and time of application submission do not increase the likelihood of being selected for the waiting list. After the lottery takes place, an email will be sent to all applicants regarding the outcome of the application submitted, along with instructions for the selected applicants regarding where to check their application status. To be eligible for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, the applicant household’s total gross annual income must be at or below the very low-income limit for the household size. The maximum yearly income for FY 22-23 for Pasadena is based on household size, as follows: Household Size 1: $41,700 Household Size 2: $47,650 Household Size 3: $53,600 Household Size 4: $59,550 Household Size 5: $64,350 Household Size 6: $69,100 Household Size 7: $73,850 The City of Pasadena applies preferences to determine selection from the waiting list, including people who live or work in the City of Pasadena, veterans, people with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness. If you're interested in applying for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program waiting list, CoPHD will accept online applications starting at 9 am on June 1, 2023. Applications will only be available online and can be submitted at www.cityofpasadena.net/housing. Applicants must have a valid email address to complete the application and must keep that email address active during the time they remain on the waiting list. Each application submitted must have a unique email address, and duplicate applications are not permitted. |
