Those of us who have spent part of our lives fighting for Civil Rights are not totally surprised as the guy in the White House has called for cheating with a very specific request as to how many cheating votes he needs to turn the Presidential Votes around in his favor. However, it is surprising he has supporters who are willing to join him, like the twelve United States Senators. Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, along with ten other coward Senators are willing to join in this movement to disenfranchise mostly black voters to support his untrue allegation that he is the winner of the November 2020 Presidential election. As a note, they will be joined by over 100 Republican Congressmen and Congresswomen.
This movement has substituted the American Constitutional Peaceful transfer of power policy with the Malcolm X Policy of “By Any Means Necessary” and a New Jim Crow Policy which you can call The Jim Crow Caucus because they want to deny black people certain rights. This latest upstart reminds me of the Civil Rights Policy of staying ever vigilant. It makes me think that the only thing between an attempted return to slavery and where we are today is ‘’the right leader.” The only thing that keeps us free is eternal vigilance to their tactics. Over the last few weeks, I watched movies including, the attack on the Move organization in Philadelphia and the story of the ship called the AMISTAD. In the documentary on Move, the government eventually burned the area occupied by the Move organization. In Amistad, 40 plus Africans were captured and taken from Africa to be transported to America and treated as slaves. The Africans decided to fight back and overtook control of the Amistad ship. Later they fought for their freedom in American courts and ended up with John Quincy Adams as their Attorney. Adams decided to talk with one of the Africans, named Cinque, who said he was taught that he was always free as his ancestors were always with him. Adams argued in court that the only reason they were on the Amistad was to end up in America to fight for the rights of the Amistad captives to be freed through the courts and up to the Supreme Court. The argument worked and they were freed. It should be noted that the Move people are also free after forty years in Prison, some being released as recently as 2018. Trump is asking, or telling, six states to change the vote counts because the election was the result of cheating, based on what he has been told or what he believes. However, in all the court cases he’s filed alleging rigged voting, court after court has thrown his case out. He has shown no proof of cheating, but he is demonstrating how to cheat. This guy has made a career of cheating and lying, but what makes him different is he gets people to go along with and support his cheating and lying. We should remember Reverend Jeremiah Wright who was on the scene when Barack Obama was a Presidential candidate. Wright ticked people off, not because of lies and cheating. They just didn’t like the truth he told, or the way he told it. As one person said, “They just don’t understand the way the Black Church operates.” The lessons of Move and Amistad reminds me to stay ever vigilant because, as my mother and father taught, “The facts of racism is not going to change as long as we stay black”, so stay vigilant. Did you see recent news reports of a fourteen-year-old boy falsely accused of stealing a kady’s phone, and do you remember Breonna Taylor, who was killed in her own home, while in bed in the middle of the night? Stay extra vigilant. You can be accused, charged, jailed, or killed for doing nothing. It comes to me that some talented Individuals like Sally Yates and even Jeff Sessions, both of whom got fired for doing the right thing, got fired for telling the truth. They join the large number of officials who got thrown under the bus for trying to do the right thing. I suggest the democrats start a new impeachment against Donald Trump for his latest antics. They may not have much time, but if he gets away with his illegal conduct, he will keep on doing something again. If he is impeached again, the rules are that he can’t hold public office again. I’ll take that! |
