A sale of a house or even an empty lot can garner a commission of over fifty thousand dollars or more at merely six percent. A Lawyer can gain a commission of one third or ten to fifty thousand dollars. Now you know why Lawyers are fighting so hard with their television advertisements. They say they will buy your house or empty land today with little or no work on your part. Why is all this low hanging fruit not benefitting Black America.
As a carpenter or contracter, a newly remodeled bath room or kitchen can bring you five to ten thousand dollars, quickly. A gardener or home maker you can earn four to five thousand dollars a year, with what could be determined to be minimal work. Other than the 7 years in school to become a Lawyer, or one year to become a Barber or Beautician, the above trades can be accomplished with little schooling. Just get together with a reliable friend, buy a truck , put out some flyers as to what services your company performs, and you’re off to the races. I say get a friend because, as my father taught me, “Two heads are better than one.” He would then say, “As long as neither head is a coconut.” Charge enough for both workers. As long as you don’t overcharge your wealth profile will be off and running. One other thing to not forget is it’s your own retail business. This requires that you go to the local wholesale area of your town or another town, buy something you want to sell, double the price, and find a market to re-sell it . You can buy and sell clothing as simple as t-shirts or a small furniture or business equipment store, and of course you can also consider starting a food service. All these businesses can be started small and grow, depending on how creative you are. Or you can do nothing. I recall reading about a young lady who got her Father to clear out and empty a bus and create a Dance Studio. It could have been a music school, book store or library. What can you do? Some of these businesses may require a stand alone office. The City may require a license like maybe for a food stand or small restaurant. You will be surprised to find out how cheap the licenses are. Then you’ll be a licensed business woman or man. Again, I ask why there is so much low hanging fruit out there==. You will not need to worry about being homeless because you will be a proud business person. There is one other thing I suggest. Simply learn to speak Spanish. You can learn it at Community Center, a Community College, or from a Latin Spanish Speaking friend. Every day an Army of Spanish Speakers come into your neighborhood to pick the proverbial low hanging fruit, while you lumber and sleep . Some years ago I wrote a column encouraging Parents to get Spanish into their child’s learning, because it’s the tool that will get you most jobs. Today I get a little angry when I go to the Doctor or Dentist’s Office, or a Restaurant where everyone there is speaking Spanish. That seems to be where all the jobs are going to Spanish Speakers. I took Spanish when I went to College and also when I also learned a little Spanish when I was a kid growing up in a mixed neighborhood of Bakersfield, California. I wish I’d learned more. The article I wrote was dated was may 30 , 2002 and published in my book (I will not apologize dated 2003) . The article suggests that Spanish be taught as a graduation requirement for all students. A look at the recent High School Valedictorians reveal that they are from a Asia or Mexico or other Countries outside the United States . I recall a trip my wife and I made to west Africa and found myself criticized by the Grocery Clerk for pointing at what I wanted to buy while she spoke French . Americans in California are at a disadvantage by not being able to speak Spanish fluently when they go to get a Job or merely go to order medicine at the Drug Store . There was a time when Californians wanted to deny Non English speakers the right to vote , now the tide has turned and Speaking Spanish is a job requirement for some jobs . I suggest that Spanish be taught in elementary School in California . It may not be a job requirement now , but keep on living here on the West Coast . At my Church we had a Saxophone Player who spoke Japanese fluently and one Sunday a Japanese Choir showed up as a guest Choir . The Saxophone Player was home alone , no one else spoke Japanese . Since we as a Country are living next door to Mexico it makes sense that we Americans learn Spanish as a second language. Communication between our Spanish Speaking neighbors and English Speaking Americans makes English Speaking Americans makes a multi lingual America Essential . Recruitment for Political participation as well as holding , running and gaining election to Political office will also make English as a second language essential . With States like Florida , California , Arizona , and Texas’ populations growing in Spanish Speaking populations multilingualism becomes essential . Marketing to Americans on Television shows , creating American Products all require American Products all require people to speak the native tongue . The quiet problem is that there is no universal love between Black and Brown people or Black and Asian people and this creates a Universal problem of distrust between different people of different races and different tongues . This problem shows itself with the analysis of doing business with one another . Asians hire Asians and Mexicans hire Mexicans but Blacks are reluctant to hire Blacks , it is not clear where this reluctance came from , but it is clearly a Problem . A Black Choir maintains a Black presence but Blacks seem to rather hire a White Dentist , or Mexican Housekeeper or Gardener , a Professional or Doctor if given the Choice . This phenomenon replays itself over and overIt’s getting better in the South but not in the western states , where we brag about having a White Doctor or Dentist . A Mexican housekeeper Carpenter or Gardener is prized while the Black housekeeper or gardener sits at home looking for work . Unfortunately they don’t hire outside their race and teach them the Language . Why not ? |
