Sports Watching & Wondering

I do not know how many of you realize just how much stuff has been going on. It may be easy for you not to notice, but the Boss says I have to write about these things. Sometimes I do not know where to start, or where to finish.

If you recall, LeBron James was on the loose. He left the Heat, and then he was going to play here, there, or anywhere. The James Group was not saying anything. However, that did not stop the pundits, who were giving us news flashes about his intentions, every 15 minutes. They were all getting their information from reliable sources. As it turns out, they did not know any more than the rest of us. However, in order to keep their jobs, they had to broadcast something.

After the James episode had ended in Cleveland, the Sterling situation came to life. Sterling was secretly recorded by a dear friend. There were offensive racist comments attributed to him, and that turned out to be his waterloo.

The NBA Commissioner ordered the Sterling's to sell the Clippers, as soon as possible. If he had not done so, then the NBA players led by Kevin Johnson and LeBron James were going to stage a brett-hundleyboycott. Sterling initially agreed to sell the team, and then he changed his mind. Maybe he forgot to put this on his "to do" list. Anyway, he followed through and filed several lawsuits. His bluster was short-lived, since he was ruled mentally incompetent. The sale of the Clippers to l Steve Ballmer was finally completed. The whole city gave a sigh of relief, and then many of the local fans attended a Fan Fest at Staples Center. Steve Ballmer wowed them, with a speech that they will never forget.

Meanwhile, back at Staples, a group laughingly referred to as Lakers Executives could not decide which coach they wanted to hire. They were the only team in the league without one, and they did not seem to be in a hurry. They interviewed this one, and that one, and everyone else, who had a pulse.

They did not know what they were looking for, so they would not have known if they had found it. After days of agonizing delays, they finally did what they should have done all along, and hired Byron Scott to be the head coach of the Lakers for this upcoming season. Hallelujah!

UCLA's football team will be very strong this year, and they are hoping to wind up in the Championship Series. Brett Hundley is one of the top quarterbacks in college football, and he is a candidate for You-Know-What. Hundley is certainly one of the best quarterbacks in college football. He has indicated that he returned to UCLA this the semester in order to try to win it. I hope that he does. However, I do have some advice for him. Just concentrate on trying to get the next play done correctly, and do not think any further ahead than that. Looking too far ahead, usually leads to upsets.
