This has been a week of shocking events, locally and nationally. Locally the world watched as California Congressman Adam Schiff put on a magnifi cent offense against President Donald Trump in his thuggish efforts to cheat in the upcoming election. We love you Adam. My phone was ringing off the hook as lawyer friends and associates called to share compliments of your performance.
At one point Schiff quoted Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the book, "To Kill a Mocking Bird." I ran out to buy another copy of the book, because I could’t fi nd the one I have. Adam’s message was, “This man needs to stop. You can’t leave a man like that in offi ce. You know it’s not going to stop… unless the Congress does something about it.” For their part, the Republican lawyers went after Trump’s favorite target. They said, "We need to be impeaching Barack Obama." Forget about it. Obama served two terms as elected President. Trump was impeached before his fi rst term was up and he may be headed to jail. The only question is will he get to serve out this term? He calls himself a genius. Most people say he’s an idiot. Malcolm X would say, “Them that know don’t say, and them that say don’t know.” Another event this week was that a friend called to tell me that there was an emergency at a property my wife and I own in Bakersfi eld, California. I had to go there and miss a memorial service I had planned to attend for a friend who passed away. On my way back to Southern California, the radio newscaster was blasting about the death of basketball giant Kobe Byrant and his 13 year old daughter dying in a helicopter crash. Though unbelievable, I found out it was true. Kobe, dead at the age of 41 years old! The emergency, the early death of Kobe, and my friend all serve as reminders that we have to be prepared for death as well as living. Are your economic affairs in order? Who will bury you or cremate you? Is there anything left for your offspring? Did you sell that house you bought years ago? Have you established insurance, your will or a Living Trust? There are people who can do that for you. Which church will your family and friends will go to say good bye? Are you ready? As for Trump, it’s left to be seen how the Republican Senators will vote, in spite of the evidence to remove him. If they vote to keep him there, we’re all in for a very scary ride. |
