The President of the United States is alleged to have called men and women in the armed forces, “Losers and Suckers”. He said to the wife of a fallen Black serviceman, “He knew what he was signing up for when he joined the service.” I believe Trump said what he is alleged to have said about suckers and losers. Suckers signed up for service and losers are the ones who died in service to our country.
This same President is telling people they can vote twice, and they can’t vote by mail. I don’t know why anybody would believe his statements now that he didn’t say it and he respects our military. If he respected our military so much why did he use a bone spur to get out of serving himself? Why did he say Senator John McCain, who spent five years in captivity, was not a hero because he was captured? We can clearly hear the President say on tape that doesn’t like people who were captured and that they are no heros. Black people in this country have worked free for whites for nearly four hundred years. We suffered Jim Crow laws, we suffered the Black Codes, we are suffering a president that says Sensitivity training is wrong, and a president that still wants to lynch the five young black men (the Central Park Five) for a crime they didn’t commit. It amazes me that here we are in 2020, and we are still a hated people because of our color. Why? We see the killing of a young black woman in her bedroom and no arrests nearly a year later. We see an unarmed young man shot in the back seven times by police who are holding him by his shirt, paralyzing him. My law school training taught me that it is illegal to shoot an unarmed person while he is running away. I keep a news article of a picture of a black man running away from a policeman, who shot him in the back in Charleston, South Carolina. I have a book of Lynchings and I believe that we could add pictures of current events like pictures of a cop killing a black while he’s on the lying face down on the ground saying he can’t breathe. We could add a picture of a man being choked to death for selling cigarettes and the killing of an autistic young black man for looking suspicious while merely walking home. We watched as a small group of white men who chased, shot, and killed a young black man who merely stopped to look at a construction site where a house was being built. We all watched as a young man was shot in his car with his girlfriend and her daughter in the car watching. We watched as a young black boy who was playing in the park with his toy gun when the police arrived was shot and killed within seconds of their arrival. Another black man was also shot in the back. Another black man was recently smothered to death even though he was already in handcuffs. Then there was another black man in Los Angeles riding on his bike and shot more than 9 times by LAPD. We all see the results of the Pandemic with the coronavirus killing close to 180,000 predominately black and brown people. We have read about Black Wall Street where, in 1921, hundreds of African American businessmen were killed and their businesses destroyed. Their crime, being black and financially successful. We fought slavery, black codes, Jim Crow as abolitionists, and on the Underground Railroad. We succeeded in escaping slavery. We fought in the courts and won our civil rights cases and a few dollars as individuals. After all these years, we are still fighting for the right to vote. We are still also fighting for reparations, similar to what the Indigenous people and the Chinese people got. Even the Jews got some reparations. The question is, “Can’t we be next? When will we be free? When can we do what we want to do, like white people, and go where we want to go? To white folks who don’t like us or just don’t want us to be around, I say, “Just stay away.” A black friend of mine who is a minister has spent many years preaching about reconciliation. He has now changed his message. He now says if this president wins, he’s leaving the country. He’s considering Africa. He’s from here. I guess he’s given up in the face of this cheating President who has managed to get the Attorney General, the Post Master General, and others to go along with him to carry out his evil, crooked deeds. This president thumbed his nose at the Hatch Act during his 2020 acceptance speech on the lawn of the Whitehouse (supposedly the people’s house). He allegedly stole nearly one hundred million dollars, raised for his 2018 inauguration ceremonies, and used it for his personal use, and basically said, “So what are you going to do about it? I’m the president. I can do anything I want.” Reconciliation and reparations, both are trumped by 400 years of racism and power. Ask the Native Americans or Maybe Marcus Garvey, Daddy Grace, or Elijah Muhammad. All had the right idea - taking a piece of American success or taking us back to the homeland, except America is such an attractive suitor. She’s beautiful. She seduces you by telling you great lies of freedom, equality, and justice. You can get an education and become anything you want to be, Doctor, Lawyer, Preacher, Teacher, or you can become a star of stage, radio, television, the big screen, or even President. You can fulfill all your dreams, if you work hard enough. If you chose to leave, you can find yourself in an unknown country and be like Castro, stuck in an unchanging country, or hope you can become like Mandela and gain a legacy, world respect and admiration. If you stay in America (or come home to America) with all its predictable imperfections you can build your legacy, celebrate Easter, Christmas, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day, the Fourth of July (or not), and celebrate Juneteenth, instead. You can celebrate at your house of worship and with your family on weekends, and trust your faith, and wait till your change comes. I know who the real sucker and loser is. It’s the one who got voted in to run this country into the ground. Remember, the higher the monkey climbs, the more he shows his… (you know what). |
