Bullying Film Project

Black news from Pasadena - Anti-bullying film project fundraiserTamirfilms, an independent film company, launches an initiative to combat bullying through filmmaking. Silencio, an all-volunteer effort, is an innovative and "high-tech masterpiece", says the film's producer, Tamir Yardenne.

The goal of this film is to foster anti-bullying efforts and provide positive environments for today's children. Thus far Silencio has organized more than 800 volunteers in eight states, with its initial kick off at John Muir High School in Pasadena, California with Mayor Bill Bogaard.

The launch of Silencio will begin with its Student Leadership Forum that seeks to immerse minority students in an intense 8-week course in film production and bully prevention education. The course connects local youth with experienced professionals in the entertainment industry and provides young filmmakers with an opportunity to receive practical, hands-on experience. Interns will be a vital part of the project and assist in the film's production. The curriculum will include marketing as it pertains to social media, pre-production, on-set production, and post-production. Curriculum will also include Bully Prevention education withTisha Marina Bernard, Non-Violence and Anti-Bully Specialist for youths, families and communities. The youth will be led through interactive activities and hands on lessons to understand and combat bullying.

"This project, Silencio, is teaching me how to not repeat the cycle of violence," Joey Hernandez, 17.

The Student Leadership Forum has gained local and national attention and media coverage, and is also supported by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
