The West Coast Premiere of “Stormy Weather” Starring Leslie Uggams is Extended by Popular Demand

Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director, Ken Novice, Interim Managing Director, Tom Ware, Producing Director) today announced that the West Coast premiere of Stormy Leslie Uggams Weather, starring Leslie Uggams, has been extended by popular demand through March 8, 2009. Pres

ented by Pasadena Playhouse, by special arrangement with Stewart F. Lane, Bonnie Comley and Armica Productions, the musical is conceived and written by Sharleen Cooper Cohen, music by Cole Porter, Harold Arlen & Johnny Mercer, Rodgers & Hart, Billy Strayhorn, and more. Stormy Weather is suggested by the biography Lena Horne, Entertainer published by Chelsea House. Michael Bush, who served as the former Director of Artistic Production for the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City, directs a cast of sixteen.

Last January, the Playhouse also announced that Storym Weather was the record-holder for advance single ticket sales prior to opening night. Sales hit $330,000 by opening night Friday, January 30, surpassing both Ray Charles Live and Sister Act the Musical.

With glamour, grace and an inner fire that blazed a trail for generations, the legendary Lena Horne has never failed to amaze. Taking both Hollywood and the music industry by storm, her voice has resonated throughout the decades, not only through her incredible vocal talent ("From This Moment On," "The Lady is a Tramp" and of course "Stormy Weather"), but also through her determination to fight for what she believed. This new musical extravaganza takes us on the sometimes stormy, always extraordinary journey of an American icon.

The World Premiere of Stormy Weather was produced at the Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia in 2007. The original New York workshop was presented by Amas Musical Theater, Donna Trinkoff, Producing Director in 2003.

Stormy Weather plays through March 8, 2009 at Pasadena Playhouse, 39 South El Molino Avenue in Pasadena.
