The Question is, Afghanistan or Haiti? By Joe C. Hopkins, Journal Publisher
It hit me. Who do we take care of, the Haitians or the Afghanis, after more than twenty years on the Sugar Tit? I have three Sons. If all three found themselves in trouble at the same time which one should I take care of first? Should I help the one who has supported himself and his family all his life, or should I stand ready to assist one of the other two first? When Businesses prepare their advertising budgets, do they forget the business owners that look like them and go elsewhere first? That seems to be the question that faces us today, with the drawdown from Afghanistan of American assistance, or Haiti who has been hit by an Earthquake? Americans have been in Afghanistan training and fighting for the Afghanistan people for the past twenty years. Now the time has come for a planned departure of the Americans. Ten years ago the country of Haiti had an Earthquake. It destroyed the country. America provided some help to Haiti. Haiti has now suffered another Earthquake. What are we Americans providing today? Haiti is a black country. They need help. Are we going to help? We gave twenty years of help to the Afghani people and they were not ready to fight when the time came to do so. They apparently surrendered their weapons, their daughters and granddaughters, and their country to the Taliban to do with them whatever they wanted. My daddy taught us to fight rather than surrender to anyone. So why after twenty years can’t the Afghanis fight, or at least run? I guess if someone has been feeding you for twenty years, all you want is your next free meal, and if it’s at the cost is your daughter or granddaughter, so be it. I watched as the Texas women gave up their vote, but only after they lost the fight. I read that the Slaves lost their fight after they suffered many deaths and violence to their bodies. But the Afghanis won’t even fight. They just seemed to say, “Take what you want.” Then we said, “You can come to our country and we will take care of you, but fight, or at least run.” Haiti has a history of Slavery ending in a revolt. It is the poorest country next to the United States which is the wealthiest Country. Haiti is a Country of about nine million residents. It has a colorful history of revolution, with characters from Papa Duvalier and Dr. Aristide. Haitians fought off the French, Napoleon Bonaparte, and the British, and survived. What is wrong with the Afghanis? Have they just been playing us for our money? American Slaves fought their so-called Masters until they were free. I don’t know the mindset of the Afghani’s but I hope they got what they wanted. The word Surrender must be in their vocabulary as a survival tactic. President Biden is right. It’s time to come home. |
