Almost like a joke, Black men of my age often joked that some white folks would like to put us back into slavery, if given the chance. It always ended with a statement, “we won’t go back.” Today’s truth with the election of a fool as President, the Joke is on the verge of attempted truth, or moving in that direction. With the court overruling Roe vs Wade, and the mention of race and the Plessey vs Ferguson ruling in the decision, we are left with the question, why not?
It is unlikely, but they may try it. The problem for these extremist white Supremacists is they have waited too long. They waited until we have tasted power as a President and Vice President. They have waited until our numbers are too great. They have placed our people in places of power and influence and taught us to fight. We are no longer just their servants, cooks, butlers, chauffeurs, and entertainers. We have become their equals, as Lawyers, Judges, Legislators, Scientists, Professors, and planner’s. You name it, and we are performing the job. To cut Black people out of anything at this point would take a Herculean effort. It will not work now. There are no free rides back to Africa, as far as I know, and people are saying “Hell No” to criminalizing getting an abortion and because it relates to due process and privacy. It looks at gay marriage, a right to contraception, and interracial marriage. I wonder what they plan to do when a homeless person becomes pregnant or a child of twelve years of age becomes pregnant by her uncle, father, or teenaged neighbor. Some are talking about prison for the mother and the doctor and even a death sentence for Felony Murder. If we look back, we see efforts to stop Black people from voting and saying no water or food for voters who have to wait in line for up to ten hours and making it a jailable offense for the mother and her doctor for getting an Abortion. You can only wonder what they are afraid of. I am amazed that the Republican adults are following their leader without raising even a question, just going along to get along, and destroying people’s lives in the process. They run for public office claiming independence and what mountain they are going to conquer. Then, they looked for a leader to follow. Now they have found their leader, a guy they knew was a con artist and a thug before they elected him, who has proved he is a thug with loyal followers. How sad. Now they think the joke is on us, but not really. We will read what they do and say, and do what is best for our generation, and leave the rest alone. We have gone from the Out House to the White House, and we will not go back. The Joke is on them if they think we are going to move backwards. |
