I and my family have suffered the indignities of the road trip from California to my birthplace in Oklahoma. I have suffered the insults of being called out of my name and called the N-word here in California. I have suffered the insult of not getting a job because they said I was overqualified. On another occasion, I was rejected because I was seen in the waiting room with a cup of coffee. I have also been beaten by the police in front of my home by the LAPD with my wife and eight-day-old son watching. I have been jailed and falsely charged with battery on a police officer. The charges were dismissed after my neighbors testified they saw me do nothing to get beaten.
I watched as my father was mistreated by the police in Bakersfield, California. My brother was beaten in Palo Alto by the Police, leaving him with a life-long limp. One son at the age of ten was approached by the Police and had his saxophone and sheet music dumped on the ground and then left. Another son was with an Indian girl in Altadena and the Police approached and harassed him for no reason and humiliated the young lady when a male officer searched her. I have mailed in my ballot and pray that it will be counted. What do I have to lose? Well, my dignity, my integrity, and my life. The guy in the White House is promoting VOTER SUPPRESSION to keep black folks from exercising our right to vote. The South has always been Republican but so has Orange County California but, truthfully, there have always been people who were honest and just and fair to the point that anti- black thinking has been overshadowed. Just as I have suffered the racism cited above, I have also received fair and equal treatment from white people who acted true to their faith that requires fair treatment. The guy in the White House has taken over the Republican party. He can make you can lose your Social Security benefits, your insurance benefits, for instance, the need for no pre-existing conditions and the treatment you get from Doctors, some teachers, many employers, and a lot of police officers and Judges. Most Lawyers play by the rules and we get fair treatment. I received better than fair treatment from a former law school professor. And I can’t forget a white man holding open a door for me when I traveled to England some years ago. Also, I encountered a white supervisor in a company where I was the only black male who treated me fairly. But then I got a new white supervisor, and things changed. The guy in the White House is a racist. He has proven that over and over again. He hates Barack Obama because Obama is black. He hates Kamala Harris, because she is black. He hates Mexicans. He hates Muslims, and he hates countries that are populated by brown and black people. It was interesting to see him push Kanye West as a third party candidate for the Presidency. What he is doing is all he can to keep blacks and brown folks from voting, and that is going to hurt. Some states have reduced the number of polling places. Some employers have threatened termination if their employees if Biden wins. Some States have implemented conditions like you have to have a doctor’s note to use an absentee ballot in Texas. In some places you have to have a witness. In other states, like Florida, you can vote if you are an ex-felon and have paid all your fees and fines. This is like a modified poll tax, which is unconstitutional. The guy in the White House says he has done more for blacks than any previous President other than Abraham Lincoln. That’s a lie. I say, “What about Lyndon Johnson?” |
