Pasadena City officials are calling for an investigation into the Police shooting death of 32-year-old Pasadena resident Anthony McClain.

The incident happened on the evening of Saturday, August 15th on Raymond and Grandview during a police traffic stop. McClain, a passenger in the car, reportedly refused to cooperate with officers when asked to be searched. According to Police McClain ran into the street in an attempt to flee. An officer said he observed the suspect remove a firearm from his waistband as he was running away. The driver was arrested at the scene.

In a press conference at the Pasadena Police Department on August 17, an official of the Department stated the pursuing officer, fearing for his life and for the safety of the public, fired his weapon twice, striking McClain once in the upper torso.

McClain was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Outrage is being expressed in the community as videos have surfaced showing McCain laying on the ground, handcuffed with an officer on his back.

The Pasadena Police Department  said they are  gathering footage from officers on the scene, and  in an attempt to be completely transparent, Pasadena Police Chief Perez stated during a recent Pasadena City Council meeting, that footage will be shared with the public once it has been first seen by McCain’s family. Chief Perez say he welcomes an open investigation.

Pasadena City Councilmember John Kennedy is quoted as saying, “This is a tragedy on multiple levels.” He feels a full investigation should be made prior to any action. Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek said he is not ready to draw any conclusions until after the investigations have been made.

The city is calling for an independent review.  Also there requests for a criminal invtigation.

The family is unhappy with the contradictory statements by the Police Department and are anxious to see what’s on the have tape.
