L.A. COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION

‘PARKS AFTER DARK’ RETURNS WITH MOVIES, LIVE MUSIC

It’s Park Time L.A. County. Bring a blanket, a folding chair, and your dancing shoes!  The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation proudly announces the return of its award-winning Parks After Dark (PAD) summer program for 2021 with a full slate of movies and live music to entertain neighbors, families and friends in outdoor fun, a much-needed respite after more than a year of social isolation.

Parks After Dark begins its summer evening program on Friday, June 18 with Movie Night, then kicks it into high gear on Saturday, June 19 with the return of Summer Concerts. All programs are free to the public. Friday night movies start at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday concerts start at 6:30 p.m. Call your local park to find out more about pre-entertainment activities that start at 6:30 p.m.

Movie Nights will run on consecutive Fridays through August 6 at all 33 Parks After Dark locations (Bassett Park Movie Night will begin on Friday, July 16).

And, thanks to the generous support of the Board of Supervisors and the collaboration of the Department of Arts and Culture, PAD parks will also host Free Summer Concerts and Arts Education programs for youth and families!

Summer Concert dates vary. The start and end dates, and participating parks, are as follows:

  • First District (Supervisor Hilda L. Solis): Saturday, June 19 – August 7 (Belvedere, City Terrace, Allen J. Martin, Obregon, Rimgrove, Salazar, San Angelo, Saybrook, Valleydale. Concert program at Bassett begins on Saturday, July 17)
  • Second District (Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell): Saturday, July 3 – Saturday, August 7 (Athens, Bethune, George Washington Carver, East Rancho Dominguez, Helen Keller, Jesse Owens, Mona, Roosevelt, Ted Watkins, Col. Leon H. Washington)

  • Fifth District: (Supervisor Kathryn Barger): Saturday, July 3 – Saturday, August 7 (Charter Oak, George Lane, Loma Alta, Pamela, Jackie Robinson, Stephen Sorenson, Val Verde)
Parks After Dark, launched in 2010, has proven to be a successful prevention and intervention program. This summer park goers will experience the multiple benefits of being at a park program that creates spaces for families, friends and neighbors to come together and explore, engage and connect through arts and entertainment all summer long. In 2018, Parks After Dark was recognized by the National Recreation and Park Association, which presented L.A. County Parks and Recreation with is Best in Innovation award.
